The University of Miami announced Monday that it will host the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) in a non-conference game at Hard Rock Stadium on September 19, 2020.
Setting up a date with the Blazers – the first-ever matchup between the two programs – adds a third game to the Hurricanes’ 2020 non-conference schedule. Miami will also host Temple (Sept. 5) and travel to Michigan State (Sept. 26) during the 2020 season.
University of Miami Deputy of Athletics and Chief Operating Officer Jennifer Strawley released a statement regarding the future game.
“We’re excited about the addition of UAB to our schedule for 2020,” Strawley said. “We are always striving for a competitive nonconference slate to complement our ACC schedule.”
Adding non-conference games to future season schedules may seem like “small potatoes”, but those games do come to fruition and often times go a long way to shaping a teams’ postseason hopes.
The Hurricanes will travel to Arlington, Texas this coming season (Sept. 2) to take on LSU – a game that was originally scheduled in 2014.
Miami also has future out-of-conference games scheduled with Florida in Orlando (2019), Alabama in Atlanta (2021), Michigan State at home (2021), and Texas A&M, both home (2023) and away (2022).
